Brad Johanson Most Inspirational Award

Bradley Eugene “Brad” Johanson was a distinguished U.S. Navy captain and an active member of Glass Odyssey Corvette Club
Born on October 23, 1956, in Portland, Oregon, he embarked on his naval career in April 1977. Johanson attended Jacksonville University, graduating summa cum laude with a degree in chemistry, and later earned a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
Throughout his over 30-year service, Johanson held several key positions, including commanding officer of the VS-29 Dragonflies and the USS Denver. His final assignment was as the commanding officer of the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis from 2006 to 2008.
After retiring from the Navy in 2008, Johanson settled in Bremerton, Washington, and became an active member of GOCC. He was known for his enthusiasm for Corvettes and his leadership within the club. Shortly after his retirement, he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Despite the challenges of the disease, Brad remained positive and dedicated his efforts to raising awareness and funds for ALS research. He passed away on September 30, 2010, at the age of 53.
In honor of his inspirational spirit and contributions, GOCC established the “Brad Johanson Most Inspirational Award” at the March 2011 general meeting, recognizing members who exemplify outstanding dedication and enthusiasm within the club.
